John F. Martin & Sons is a meat, cheese and dairy supplier that was established in 1961 in Lancaster County. The existing plant is located along the PA Turnpike in Stevens, PA. In order to continue to supply customers with the foods they love, JFM knew that they would need to expand. JFM purchased the former Valley Forge Flag Company building located off of Rt. 422 in Womelsdorf, PA. In July 2013, Scenic Ridge started renovations to convert the building in to a 190,000 sq. ft. turkey and pork bacon manufacturing plant.
SRC installed the insulated metal panels, poured all of the concrete floors and erected the structural steel. Approximately 78,300 sq. ft. of cooler and freezer area was installed in the facility, and there is room for an additional 33,000 sq. ft. In order for the building to be able to facilitate the manufacturing process, the roof lines were raised 7’6” in one area, and 17’6” in another section. Approximately 83,000 sq. ft. of new roofing was installed with additional roof insulation. Ten loading docks were put in, and three have been made active for the present operation. In addition to the manufacturing area, there is a two-story office area, a laundry room, locker room, conference room, lunch room and a mechanical room.
SRC appreciated working with the owner’s representatives, Bernell Martin and Nevin Nolt. Thank you to JFM for choosing to work with SRC, and everyone who was involved in making this project a success! We hope that this new facility “brings home the bacon!”
